C.H.A.N.G.E. Seeks Donations for Expansion

C.H.A.N.G.E. Fitness (Creating Healthy Actions through Nutrition & Group Exercise), part of the Spring Street Community Development Corporation, has been fighting the obesity epidemic for the past year in Morristown. The program’s mission is to help people reach a healthy weight by providing opportunities for everyone, regardless of financial ability to pay, to get fit and learn about nutritious food choices. (There is a low cost or no cost to those who show a need.)  As C.H.A.N.G.E. looks to expand in its current location to offer a larger group exercise space and a weight training area, the group is seeking donations of the following items:

-           Laptop for bookkeeping and attendance keeping

-           Hardwood floor for 2000–3000 square feet (working out on hardwood floor helps prevent injury)

-           Drywall to put up walls and ceiling in current and new space

-           Mirror to opposite walls in new space

-           Paint

-           Large metal cabinets for fitness storage and nutrition supplies

-           50-inch TV to run fitness videos & seminars on nutrition

-           Dumbbells (4 sets of 1–10lbs)

-           Cardio machines (elliptical, treadmill)

C.H.A.N.G.E. is solely funded by donations from organizations, individuals, and the income from those who can afford the cost of the class. The group is also looking into grants to help fund its growth. Current instructors, maintenance people and administrators volunteer their time and talents.

Donations can be made payable to the Spring Street Community Development Corporation FBO C.H.A.N.G.E. Fitness, 65 Spring Street, Morristown, NJ 07960.

5 Top Tips to Finding Your Next Doctor

1 Keep an Open Mind! Healthcare has come a long way. Today, you have access to practitioners that branch outside of traditional medicine and aim to identify the root causes of conditions while using alternative treatments that may help you get the relief you need. Just because it’s not a pill, doesn’t make it pseudoscience.

2 Build Your Health Care Team. There is no one doctor that can be the be-all-end-all for your health needs. Be sure to have a team of practitioners with different “lenses” and areas of expertise who will treat the root cause and not just the symptom(s).

3   Environment Influences Healing. Health is multi-factorial. Your mental and emotional environment plays a pivotal role in your healing potential. Your doctors and their staff should create an office atmosphere filled with positivity so you can get the most out of your care.

4 Your Story Matters.  Before you begin any treatment, be sure to have a comprehensive consultation to discuss your health concerns. Find practitioners who welcome questions and will take the time to listen and treat you with respect.

5 Report of Findings. When it comes to our health, we often make decisions without understanding the risk versus benefits. Knowledge is an important part of the healing process and is essential to make conscious, informed health decisions. Find practitioners who take the time to explain their exam findings and the recommendations for treatment in ways that make sense to you.
