Sustainable Morristown’s Fifth-Annual Locally Grown Gala

Sustainable Morristown, a collaborative effort by community members to ensure the economic, environmental and social well-being of Morristown residents, visitors, and future generations, will hold its Locally Grown Gala, celebrating local chefs, farmers and sustainability champions, on Sunday, September 20, 4 to 7pm, at the Hyatt Morristown Headquarters Plaza, 3 Speedwell Avenue. The gala showcases the abundance of locally sourced and sustainable menus by featuring area chefs from a variety of restaurants, retail establishments, nonprofit organizations and mobile dinner clubs.

Participating chefs include those from Pig & Prince, Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen, Kings Food Markets, End of Elm, Highlands Dinner Club, Hyatt Morristown, the Artist Baker, and the Community Soup Kitchen.  Each chef will create a tasting based on ingredients from local food producers and farms including Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse, Back in Time Kitchen, Glenmalure Farm, Griggstown Farm, Grow it Green Morristown, Happy Harvest Hydroponic Farms, Ralston Farm, Tassot Apiaries, Jeff’s Organic Produce, Valley Shepherd Creamery, and Shore Catch.

The gala also features an open bar with cocktails using farm-fresh herbs and spirits from Jersey Artisan Distillery, Philadelphia Distilling, and Talero Tequila. Master mixologist Warren Bobrow will be on hand to mix up nonalcoholic “mocktails,” and there will be a selection of craft beers from Weyerbacher Brewing Company and River Horse Brewing Company as well as a selection of biodynamic and organic wines. There will also be a silent auction of dozens of “sustainably themed” items generously contributed by local businesses, and live music will be provided by Byrdgrass.

Sustainability champions will be honored through Triple Bottom Line Awards given to county residents, businesses and institutions. Sustainable Morristown is currently accepting nominations for the awards program.

“We are honored to have the support of local area chefs, farmers, businesses, and sustainability innovators for our fifth annual event,” says Paul Miller, president of the board of Sustainable Morristown. “And we are always grateful to all who attend the event to show support for our local food system and sustainability.” The gala is presented by Sustainable Morristown, Kings Food Markets, and Hyatt Morristown, and is sponsored by Highlands Dinner Club.

5 Top Tips to Finding Your Next Doctor

1 Keep an Open Mind! Healthcare has come a long way. Today, you have access to practitioners that branch outside of traditional medicine and aim to identify the root causes of conditions while using alternative treatments that may help you get the relief you need. Just because it’s not a pill, doesn’t make it pseudoscience.

2 Build Your Health Care Team. There is no one doctor that can be the be-all-end-all for your health needs. Be sure to have a team of practitioners with different “lenses” and areas of expertise who will treat the root cause and not just the symptom(s).

3   Environment Influences Healing. Health is multi-factorial. Your mental and emotional environment plays a pivotal role in your healing potential. Your doctors and their staff should create an office atmosphere filled with positivity so you can get the most out of your care.

4 Your Story Matters.  Before you begin any treatment, be sure to have a comprehensive consultation to discuss your health concerns. Find practitioners who welcome questions and will take the time to listen and treat you with respect.

5 Report of Findings. When it comes to our health, we often make decisions without understanding the risk versus benefits. Knowledge is an important part of the healing process and is essential to make conscious, informed health decisions. Find practitioners who take the time to explain their exam findings and the recommendations for treatment in ways that make sense to you.
