Natural Awakenings North Central New Jersey

6th Annual Groove in the Grove Songwriter Festival at Budd Lake’s Vasa Park

In its sixth year, the Groove in the Grove Songwriter Festival returns to Vasa Park, 1 Wolfe Road in Budd Lake, on June 11, from 1 to 9pm. Presented by the Skylands Songwriters Guild (SSG), Groove in the Grove features local and regional independent songwriters from the tri-state area, with a focus on original music. A showcase of acoustic performances is followed by an evening concert by the Grip Weeds, whose eclectic style, according to the group’s website, ranges from “psychedelic and garage rock to folk-based ballads and thought-provoking social commentary.”  The Skylands Songwriters Guild is a recognized 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing the community of singer-songwriters of Northwest New Jersey and the surrounding region. The festival admission is $15/adults, $10/students, with children 12 and under free.

This community-oriented, family-friendly event offers attendees a chance to experience firsthand the art of song craft from talented performers in a comfortable, relaxed setting on the picturesque grounds of Vasa Park. (In case of inclement weather, all musical performances will be held in the park’s large banquet hall.) The venue boasts two outdoor performance stages, a large on-site playground, plenty of parking and convenient bathroom facilities.

The day also features a variety of arts-and-crafts and service vendors, food for purchase from Vasa Park's Arlington Lodge 62, and a selection of American and European beers from Vasa's fully stocked outdoor cash bar! Lawn chairs and blankets welcome, no pets or coolers please.

5 Top Tips to Finding Your Next Doctor

1 Keep an Open Mind! Healthcare has come a long way. Today, you have access to practitioners that branch outside of traditional medicine and aim to identify the root causes of conditions while using alternative treatments that may help you get the relief you need. Just because it’s not a pill, doesn’t make it pseudoscience.

2 Build Your Health Care Team. There is no one doctor that can be the be-all-end-all for your health needs. Be sure to have a team of practitioners with different “lenses” and areas of expertise who will treat the root cause and not just the symptom(s).

3   Environment Influences Healing. Health is multi-factorial. Your mental and emotional environment plays a pivotal role in your healing potential. Your doctors and their staff should create an office atmosphere filled with positivity so you can get the most out of your care.

4 Your Story Matters.  Before you begin any treatment, be sure to have a comprehensive consultation to discuss your health concerns. Find practitioners who welcome questions and will take the time to listen and treat you with respect.

5 Report of Findings. When it comes to our health, we often make decisions without understanding the risk versus benefits. Knowledge is an important part of the healing process and is essential to make conscious, informed health decisions. Find practitioners who take the time to explain their exam findings and the recommendations for treatment in ways that make sense to you.
