Change Your Lifestyle with Dr. Fuhrman

We all know that a healthy lifestyle will help you feel and look your best. The Lifestyle Change Program provides an effective plan for establishing, reaching and maintaining fitness, weight and wellness goals. Participants attend supervised exercise, nutrition and stress management classes for two hours twice a week for 12 weeks. This program is based on a whole foods, plant-based Nutritarian diet developed by The New York Times best-selling author Joel Fuhrman, MD.

Twice a week, participants work out for one hour under the guidance of a certified fitness trainer. These sessions will help you establish the principles of proper cardiovascular exercise and strength training to improve balance, core strength and flexibility.

In the nutrition component, a registered dietitian will advise eliminating specific unhealthy foods from your diet and introduce you to new nutritional habits. Some examples of lessons include recognizing true hunger, meal planning and shopping tips, as well as tips for dining out. In addition, Dr. Fuhrman will present three nutritional lectures and answer questions about the Nutritarian diet.

Implementing change can be difficult—we all struggle with day-to-day challenges that hinder success. In the stress management component of the program, participants learn everyday tools to support well-being, as well as stress reduction techniques to help achieve wellness goals.

The program runs every Monday and Wednesday for two hours, with day and evening times available. The fee is $775. Location: Chambers Center for Well Being, 435 South Street, Suite 160, Morristown. For information, call 973-971-4890.

5 Top Tips to Finding Your Next Doctor

1 Keep an Open Mind! Healthcare has come a long way. Today, you have access to practitioners that branch outside of traditional medicine and aim to identify the root causes of conditions while using alternative treatments that may help you get the relief you need. Just because it’s not a pill, doesn’t make it pseudoscience.

2 Build Your Health Care Team. There is no one doctor that can be the be-all-end-all for your health needs. Be sure to have a team of practitioners with different “lenses” and areas of expertise who will treat the root cause and not just the symptom(s).

3   Environment Influences Healing. Health is multi-factorial. Your mental and emotional environment plays a pivotal role in your healing potential. Your doctors and their staff should create an office atmosphere filled with positivity so you can get the most out of your care.

4 Your Story Matters.  Before you begin any treatment, be sure to have a comprehensive consultation to discuss your health concerns. Find practitioners who welcome questions and will take the time to listen and treat you with respect.

5 Report of Findings. When it comes to our health, we often make decisions without understanding the risk versus benefits. Knowledge is an important part of the healing process and is essential to make conscious, informed health decisions. Find practitioners who take the time to explain their exam findings and the recommendations for treatment in ways that make sense to you.
