Natural Awakenings North Central New Jersey

Meet Dr. Philip Memoli

Dr. Philip Memoli, founder of the Center For Systemic Dentistry, believes a holistic dentist must be proficient in both traditional and alternative dentistry. He has completed numerous programs and studied with the best teachers of the traditional mindset plus has nearly 30 years of experience in systemic (holistic) dentistry, acupuncture/acupressure, homeopathy, and nutrition, which, along with traditional dental methods, form the basis of his dental practice.

What is Holistic and Biological Dentistry?

Holistic refers to the practice of using natural or non-toxic means of healing the body. In dentistry, this may mean avoiding mercury fillings, root canals and fluoride. Biological refers to using natural remedies to heal the tooth, gums, and bone, rather than relying solely on technology. Systemic dentistry studies and treats the interface between the oral cavity and the body, specifically in the ways they are influenced by the interaction.

Dr. Philip Memoli has founded several dental institutes and have trained over 500 dentists on how to perform protocols he designed.  Through his practice at the Center for Systemic Dentistry, patient services include restorative center for fillings, crowns and cleanings; a surgical center for ceramic implants and extractions; and a spa for holistic skin care. He also regularly receives referrals from medical doctors for patients who are experiencing mercury toxicity from amalgam fillings.

Advancements in Dental Implants

Problems with metal implants such as color, biocompatiblity and infections prompted researchers to find a non-metallic option. Zirconia (non-metal) implants have been used since 2004 with a success rate comparable to metallic titanium implants. Recently, a new Zirconia implant was approved that enhances the success rate of immediate implants (those placed right after the tooth is pulled) and can cut treatment and healing time in half for many patients. The newly approved Zirconia implant is specifically designed for immediate placement at the time of extraction. In some cases, a temporary crown can be placed at the same visit. An extraction and implant performed at the same time with a temporary tooth in place may even reduce costs.

“We combine the best of modern technology and ancient, holistic wisdom to create individualized patient programs for true dental healing and body health,” states Memoli. “Whenever possible, we will recommend the best natural options for your dental problem, including natural alternatives to fillings, root canals and pain control, with drilling and filling as the last resort.”

5 Top Tips to Finding Your Next Doctor

1 Keep an Open Mind! Healthcare has come a long way. Today, you have access to practitioners that branch outside of traditional medicine and aim to identify the root causes of conditions while using alternative treatments that may help you get the relief you need. Just because it’s not a pill, doesn’t make it pseudoscience.

2 Build Your Health Care Team. There is no one doctor that can be the be-all-end-all for your health needs. Be sure to have a team of practitioners with different “lenses” and areas of expertise who will treat the root cause and not just the symptom(s).

3   Environment Influences Healing. Health is multi-factorial. Your mental and emotional environment plays a pivotal role in your healing potential. Your doctors and their staff should create an office atmosphere filled with positivity so you can get the most out of your care.

4 Your Story Matters.  Before you begin any treatment, be sure to have a comprehensive consultation to discuss your health concerns. Find practitioners who welcome questions and will take the time to listen and treat you with respect.

5 Report of Findings. When it comes to our health, we often make decisions without understanding the risk versus benefits. Knowledge is an important part of the healing process and is essential to make conscious, informed health decisions. Find practitioners who take the time to explain their exam findings and the recommendations for treatment in ways that make sense to you.
